I'm 15 and have a huge project due in April. It will be the last one for the school year. How can I motivate myself to start it? I need to look up research. Pls give tips. I want to finish off the year with good grades before I start high school.

You're on the internet now. Start doing your research now. This is what I do when I have something to do, such as cleaning my house: I clean one room and then allow myself a 15 minute break to do whatever whether it's check my email, spend it on YAs, check Myspace, or watch part of a TV show. That always motivates me, because I work hard to distract myself until the next break. So if you have to do research on the internet, allow yourself to do, say, 30 minutes or so of research, and then allow yourself 10-15 minutes for a YAs break (or whatever it is you enjoy) Good luck!

If I knew more about the project I could help you organize it into steps for the remaining time you have. I used to teach this (Research and Study Skills) and I'm probably still good at it!

Detroit is right--you just have to start. But it helps first to break down the project into steps. Just as with the writing process--(1) pre-write (2) draft (3) revise (4) edit (5) present.

Edit: The Internet is not a good place for research on the academic level. It's OK for personal stuff; but if you are doing a formal project above grade 10 you should go to primary sources--books, generally.

do it A LITTLE AT A TIME! let's say you have to do 150 notecards of research, and you've got a month, which is about 30 days, so do 5 a day! thats all you have to do...no giant session where you sit down and look for 150 facts, just 5 at a time. or if you have a multiple-component project, do one part a week, like one week you do the essay and the next you do the poster board or something. plan it out and make it easy so you only have to do a small piece at once and don't get overwhelmed. plus it won't consume your entire life for like the week before its due; you can hang out everyday after you get those 5 done!

hmmm well then since i am a fellow procrastinator

First figre out the difficulty of the assignment if its something which could be done in an hour. Then go head and just do bits and bits.

Though I personally would say like if you finish your homework and have like 5 hours until you go to sleep. Just take some time to do it. Though make sure when your finished to put it somewhere where you can remember where you put it

Make a plan. It might be hard to stick to, but it is possible.

At the end of the week, have goals to finish a certain part. Do the important research these next couple of weeks, and touch up and brush up the last final details the week before, not do it all the week before. It will be sloppy, ugly, and not a quality piece of work. As long as you have a week-by-week (or even day-by-day) plan and stick to it, you'll be fine. PACE YOURSELF and you'll be okay.

I'm just like you. I had a chemistry project due today, and it had a bunch of different essays and procedures and experiments in one. I waited until last night to do the acual paper... 13 pages. It took em four hours. It was hell. Don't let it happen. Ask your parents to drop you off at the library or something. There are hardly any distractions there.

Take it all one step at a time. Don't try todo it all in one sitting. Just pace yourself :)

Well I look at it this way because I have the sammmeeee problem with my online classes in college. Be lazy now and do all the hard work at the last minute orrrr, get all the hard work done and get to be lazy later...I like getting to be lazy later. JUST DO IT!!!! (just like nike) Good Luck
