That's like asking why someone's scared of the dark. The dark won't hurt you. I looove the dark. My eyes are very sensitive to light. I naturally keep electronics on low settings, I rarely use my high beams while driving, and I only on certain occassions turn my overhead light on. Typically I just use my little bedside lamp.
But, tons of people are scared of the dark, aren't they? It's...unexplainable. They'd probably say, "who knows what's in it? I can't see." Now, me, I don't understand that. I have pretty good night vision, and I'm a very (audible?) person. I rely on my sense of hearing more than eyesight. I have great vision, but if I can't hear, I go a bit crazy. Like right now, I have my earbuds in, but my music stopped playing. Sound is muffled, and it makes me uncomfortable, though I can see totally fine.
People are scared of spiders in the same way. They have eight legs. Multiple eyes. Hair in places hair shouldn't be. I understand it because I'm not a fan, even though I'm not scared of them. The way you don't understand fear of spiders is how I don't understand fear of dark. We like it, we're comfortable with it. We're not scared, so you'll never fully understand. I know people who don't understand my fear of amphibians. I don't question it, cause they're not scared. *I* am.
