Should I delete my Facebook account?

I really think Facebook, for the social aspect, is really stupid, and that people seem to live through it, and it's sad and pathetic that people get self esteem boosts just because x number of people like their photo, or they post, "I'm ugly, like if you disagree!" it's so annoying. Or the posts that are really specific and aimed towards a certain person, but they don't have the balls to say it to the person's face. It's also been really annoying lately seeing EVERYTHING that EVERYONE likes, like where it shows the photo of the dog chopped up and it saying, "This is sad, but don't deny it! Like if you're against animal cruelty!" or the "Like if you want to go to heaven, scroll down if you want to go to hell." Like, REALLY?!? For the people that believe in Heaven and Hell, that wouldn't even be decided whether or not you like a stupid Facebook post!

But, the thing is, I love Facebook at the same time, because of the pages. Like, I have admin some pages, and there are all of these fanpages (mainly for Darren Criss and Starkid) that I like and it's like a big community of fans that are all really nice.

Should I just delete all of my friends and still use it for the fanpages? I don't want to leave those, some of the people there are like my second family. :(

I deleted my Facebook, and it was such a stress reliever. Before I deleted it, I didn't realize how much time I wasted just checking notices everyday and the obligation over your shoulders to reply to comments and make sure you don't have any messages, not to mention people changing their "relationship status" and drama starting between girls, it really is stupid. I love texting people, or better yet, talking to them in person and actually hanging out.

Plus, have you ever actually READ the privacy contract? The government in the US and any big business has FULL access to anything you post, message, like, on Facebook. They also have a face recognition program that can scan your face in a picture and find any other picture of you on the internet that you've ever posted, and you can not permanently delete them. Facebook can ruin your reputation and ability to get a decent career in the future. And no, that's not a bunch of myths, my uncle works in financing and the head of some bank and he can literally check your mail right now if he wanted.

I totally agree with you about everything you said.

I also believe that the social aspect of Facebook is absolutely pathetic, people don't act like how they originally do in person because on Facebook we mostly talk with our minds, what our brain basically wants to say, but when you're in person, it is a lot less simplistic to pretty much talk in person because it's a bit harder to talk your mind, you aren't exactly in Private when it comes to talking to people in Public places, where as, on Facebook, you can talk about whatever you want to talk about without people even knowing that you're talking about it.

You also can be anyone via Facebook, you can make your own identity and hide your true identity by saying you're a millionaire when you actually quite poor or... you can act nice when you're actually a really really mean type of person in person. With Facebook, these things have been made possible. And that is just what I hate about it.

And oh my God, I totally feel you about those status's you see on your Home Page. I got to a limit where I had enough of seeing those crap status's, those status's that say "Like if you wish cancer never existed." HA! Liking a status ain't going to help anything! I got to a limit where I just blocked my whole home page up so I have no access to it at all via this Google Chrome Add-on called "AdBlock"

But however, I think I am trapped inside Facebook all together, caved in with no way out. Because I am now just extremely addicted to it. Because most of my friends are on there and it's the only way I can actually keep in contact with my friends outside school. And if I am to organize meetings with my friends, the only way of organizing is via Facebook. Which sucks.

But however, if you are very determined on doing so, I believe you should delete it. Or choose your second option in deleting all your friends and use only the fanpages.

I hope I helped.

Your account is never really deleted, it's just deactivated. I agree, I think it's very superficial and annoying at times. You could still keep it, but just limit the amount of time you spend on it, and if there are certain people that annoy you, you can always block their post from being seen on your account, without actually deleting them. I will have to say, I am having second thoughts about deleting my account. I have more fun on message boards, and actually can have intellectual conversations with people.

I believe you should only delete the people who are always posting those 'Like for.. Blah blah blah!' posts. I personally love pages as well, and if you enjoy them you should keep them! You should keep everyone you care about and unfriend ones you could care less about. That is all I have to say.

Sounds like you have no real friends
