i, too am in the midst of re-decorating. i get bored of my room often and about every 6 months i'll do something major but i wont completely strip it. i think its a good thing because my taste changes over time and living in an environment which i feel most comfortably myself in is crucial for me. it keeps me happy and its just a nice refreshing change once in a while.
we live in la and our house is such a typical californian house. its a 2 story spanish house on a beautiful street but the house itself looked a mess when we first moved in so we did alot or redecorating and renovating to restore it and it looks pretty amazing. we've just about finished up all the little details.
i got my room painted peach when we first moved in because i think it is one of the most versatille colors there is. its also really bright and fun =). my floor is hardwood like 90% of the house and is complimented with anique furniture. my parents are crazy about antiques and growing up i hated them but i love it now. they hold so much history. some of my favorite peices are the large half-moon desk in my room and my queen bed frame with spiral posts and intricate carvings which was bought on ebay. theyre both beautiful.
one wall is completely obscured by posters, magazine clippings, art, famous quotes, and street stickers (like the obey/obama ones). what i love about it is that it looks like a huge collage. another wall has a 4ft by 4ft square framed middle-eastern vintage colorfully embroidered quilt that belonged to my grandparents. they worked with the UN and traveled to an uncountable number of places throughout their lives and several other things in my room are things and art they had accumulated from different countries. i also add to this ''collection" with souvenirs of my own from my travels. i have a marbletop wooden cabinet and the marble just looked out of place so i covered it with a green, black, white, and burguny sheet patterned with the female sign inside a geometric shape of a bird and in the center it says "UN decade for women conference july 1985 nairobi/kenya". i also have a vintage dress form in my closet. i dont really use it too much but im planning on decorating it. im goint to somehow temporarily adhere newspapers covered in jewels, buttons, sequins, etc. one wall in my closet (walk-in) has a contemporary bird-print wallpaper and the other walls are wooden planks. its and odd polygon shape almost like a heptagon but not quite. my closet door is covered in graffiti art which was done by a friend of a friend who is one of la's best graffiti artists as a birthday present. hanging on one of my bed posts is a mini rose and flower bouqet that i held during 8th grade graduation. not a single petal has fallen for 5 years!
ive also been trying to be super organized lately so i went to the container store recently and bought all this cool stuff and now im so motivated (OCD is a better word) to clean my room =P
on my bed i have a bedpread from anthropologie thats just a white sheet covered in a silver medallion print. i also have a random twin bed in my room because there wasnt any space in the house for another anique. my rooms not exactly big but its not too small either. im hoping to clear out the basement so i can swap the bed for a couch. the duvet cover is that blue print thats seen on porcelain? similar to this but instead with trees, swallows, and women and children tending to farm animals in whats looks like the 19th century:

my room isnt really themed. theres an assortment of colors and shades, ethnic origins, art, etc. i just decorate it with whatever i please. i feel that if you have certain theme then you are limited too much and if that theme is based on an interest caused by a phase then you will grow sick of it soon.
hope you will be inspired! good luck =)
